🌿 Today, I want to share with you how I sprinkle sustainability into my daily routine. As a web and brand designer at Visual Sugar Creative, I believe in aligning my personal values with our eco-conscious business ethos. Let’s dive into a typical day and see how small, mindful choices can make a big difference!
8:00 AM – Rise and Shine
My day kicks off at 8 AM with the gentle sound my apple phone alarm clock. After a restful deep sleep with the help of a meletonin gummy and medicinal cannabis, I stretch and crawl out of my tall bed in my school bus to throw open the curtains to let in the natural light. Who needs artificial lighting when the sun’s shining bright af in the desert? (Currently in Utah)
8:30 AM – Homemade Coffee Creations
Time for a delicious cuppa joe! I whip up my own coffee, meaning i grab it from the coffee maker- I opt for organic coffee with no pesticides and of course it isnt complete without a homemade coffee creamer. It’s a dreamy blend of almond milk and condensed milk with no GMO and homemade vanilla extract—so yum and eco-friendly! I keep my homemade creamer in a cute half gallon mason jar with a cap thats made for those jars
9:00 AM – Morning Check-In
While I enjoy my coffee, I love to check my emails and Instagram DMs. Connecting with clients and followers is such a joy, and I manage everything digitally to keep paper waste at bay. I do have a social media girl, but I like to keep my social medias very personable so she handles the posting and I handle my DM’s and comments 🙂
9:30 AM – Mindful Hygiene
In the bathroom, AKA my sink in my Skoolie. It’s all about eco-friendly products. My toothpaste comes in a recyclable tube that is made from recycled products, and my skincare routine is packed with cruelty-free goodies in sustainable packaging. Plus, I always turn off the tap while brushing to save water.
10:00 AM – Commute (Or Not!)
Working from home or the bus means I save on fuel and shrink my carbon footprint. My home office is a haven of sustainability, with energy-efficient LED lighting and upcycled furniture that we built for the bus, but most of the time I like to sit outside and work in my camping chair or at the picnic table.
10:30 AM – Design with a Purpose
When I’m working on projects, I go digital to reduce paper waste. My computer and other electronics are set to energy-saving modes, and I always unplug devices when they’re not in use. Every bit counts!
12:00 PM – Eco-Conscious Meals
Lunchtime means a scrumptious, Mediterranean salad or non-GMO snacks.
12:30 PM – Outdoor Refresh
A short walk after lunch to soak in some nature does wonders. It clears my mind and keeps me connected to the beautiful environment I’m working to protect.
1:00 PM – Paperless Workflow
Back to work! All my notes and documents live in the cloud. I use digital tools to keep things organized and eco-friendly. When I need to print, it’s always on recycled paper with eco-friendly ink.
2:30 PM – Homemade Essentials
I love making my own cleaning sprays with vinegar and essential oils. It’s not just good for the planet, but my home smells divine and chemical-free!
3:00 PM – Sustainable Collaboration
When it’s time to collaborate with clients and the team, I opt for virtual meetings to cut down on travel emissions. Our design presentations are all digital, reducing the need for physical mockups and waste.
4:00 PM – Hydration and Homemade Goodies
Staying hydrated is key, and my reusable water bottle is my best friend. No single-use plastics here! I also love baking my own bread—fresh, healthy, and free from unnecessary packaging.
6:00 PM – Dinner Time
Dinner often starts with a hearty salad or and sometimes I will do a meat and 2 sides or I do plant based meals. and I’m always mindful of portion sizes to minimize food waste.
7:00 PM – Sustainable Relaxation
Evenings are perfect for low-energy activities. I usually read a book outside in nature and drink carbonated water I make with a soda stream or I will make a herbal tea for how I am feeling that day.
8:00 PM – Mindful Tinctures and Wellness
I love making my own tinctures with herbs I grow myself or source locally. It’s a natural, sustainable way to boost my health and wellness.
9:00 PM – Eco-Friendly Wind Down
As the day winds down, I dim the lights and either play disney dream light valley on the switch for some cozy vibes. My night routine features organic, sustainably sourced products that are gentle on my skin and the planet.
11:00 PM – Goodnight!
Before bed, I brush my teeth again, let my dogs out to use the bathroom and then off to bed.
Living sustainably is about making mindful choices that add up to a big impact. But also reminding ourselves that we are not perfect and that is okay. But by weaving these practices into my daily routine, I’m contributing to a healthier planet.
Stay green and fabulous! 🌍✨
